‘Bush carpenters’ come up trumps with Eaves Bush boardwalk Construction of a boardwalk designed to protect the health of an 800-year old kauri tree in Eaves Bush will be completed this week, several days ahead of schedule.Dozens of volunteers assisted with the work, carrying timber to the site, clearing the route, digging and placing posts as well as building the 25 metre-long boardwalk. Volunteer Graeme Webber of Puhoi, the only volunteer who has built a boardwalk before, says work proceeded a great deal faster than expected thanks to the efforts of some very determined and skilled people. The boardwalk will allow visitors to the bush to bypass the old kauri rather than walking over its roots. Cooperating on the project were the Eaves Bush Appreciation Group, Forest & Bird, Rodney District Council, City Care and Kensington Park.
